Dr. James C. Johnston is a Consultant Neurologist, a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with Additional Certification in Neurorehabilitation, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology.
He is an Attorney and Counselor at Law in the USA, and a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
Dually qualified and licensed to practice medicine and law, Dr. Johnston is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine.
Dr. Johnston is an Honorary Professor at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, having served since inception of the neurology residency training program. This program has trained 81 neurologists since the first graduates in 2008. These neurologists are treating many thousands of patients and, more importantly in a nation where there may never be enough neurologists, training the general physicians to diagnose and treat common neurological problems. The program also trains physicians from other African nations.
Dr. Johnston is the Founding Partner of GlobalNeurology®, a unique partnership of neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuroethicists dedicated to advancing sustainable, evidence-based neurological care. The non-profit affiliate Global NeuroCare® is focused on advancing neurological services in developing regions. This NGO is accredited by the World Health Organization and holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations ECOSOC – the 54 Member States of the Committee on NGOs accepted GlobalNeurology® after reviewing the statutes, objectives, past and present affiliations, and achievements. Drs. Mehila Zebenigus and James Johnston serve as Directors, providing the UN with expert analysis on neurological issues, monitoring and implementing international agreements, and serving as Delegates at the Geneva, New York, and Vienna sessions.
Dr. Johnston has published over 125 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, white papers, and editorials.
